Practical

  • The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) that is organised three times a year (in June, September and October) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel language institute is known as the ‘institutional testing program’ (ITP). The ITP TOEFL is administered to prospective English-language programme VUB students and scores earned are for use by the VUB only. Students who need TOEFL scores for admission to universities and institutions other than the VUB must take the TOEFL test at a TOEFL paper/pencil or computer-based administration.
  • The ITP TOEFL test evaluates students’ knowledge of English at the intermediate to advanced levels. The questions in each section are in multiple-choice format with four possible answers per question. There are three sections in the test: Listening Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression, and Reading Comprehension.
  • The test takes approximately 2 hours.
  • Immediately after the test has been administered, the test books are returned to the TOEFL agency responsible for scoring and scores are (usually) made available within the next 10 days.
  • Under no circumstances will the enrolment fee be refunded.
  • Each faculty determines for itself which scores are required. A score of 550 or 600 is generally considered acceptable.
  • Scores can be obtained from the faculties or Registration Office.
  • Scores are final and cannot be negotiated.

The dates of the tests are:

  • Friday, 14th June 2013 (deadline: 24th May 2013)
  • Friday, 6th September 2013 (deadline: 12th August 2013)
  • Friday, 27th September 2013 (deadline: 6th September 2013)

The tests are held at the VUB campus (further information upon registration) and begin at 9 am. Students are expected to arrive no later than 8.45 am and will be asked to provide proof of identity (ID or passport).
